Reading is a huge part of a child's development. In the early stages, it should be a shared experience between parent and child which can impart a love of books from an early age. Reading skills are an essential part of building a strong imagination, love of story-telling, and interest in learning. LoveReading4Kids takes a look at the top ways to get your child to love reading.

Here are 12 ways you can help your child love to read more:

  1. Let your kids see you read. Ensure that your children see you reading regularly. Whether it is a book, newspaper, or magazine, being in an environment that promotes reading will instill a love of reading for pleasure.
  2. Find a comfortable place to read. If you create a place that is fun to read, you and your family will be more likely to want to go there to read.
  3. Talk about what you are reading. Before, during, and after reading a book, make sure you talk about the story. Take time to discuss the ideas in the book in order to ensure proper understanding and inspire imagination.
  4. Find a favorite author. If you and your kids have a favorite author, read their work over and over again. Inspire them to reach out discover new authors as well.
  5. Get a library car. Get your kids their own library card and attend the library often. Encourage your kids to check out 5 books at a time. The more books your kids go through, the more they will be able to refine their taste and widen their comprehension.
  6. Try graphic novels. The brilliant illustrations and edgy dialogue are great for kids who think reading is boring.
  7. xx. Some kids will prefer non-fiction books. There are plenty of book about space, nature, or history written at appropriate reading levels.
  8. Read on an e-reader. Reading on an e-reader, provides progress reminders, increases reading speed, which will motivate your reader to improve.
  9. Read audio books. Audio books help children appreciate the art of story telling. This is a great option if they are not able to finish a book by themselves.
  10. Test your eyes. Make sure you have your child's eyes tested. If your child needs reading glasses, they will not enjoy reading until they get them.
  11. Read in bed. Tell your kids they can stay up as late as they want if they read in bed. This makes reading a treat.
  12. Watch a movie of your book. After your child has finished reading a book, let them watch the movie if it is available. You can talk about what they enjoyed better, the book or the film.
